AFTERGRINDER

AFTERGRINDER is a fast paced running game with interesting concepts.

TL;DR at bottom

Gameplay – AFTERGRINDER is a typical run-and-avoid-the-obstacles game. The core mechanics remind me of the gravity suit from Jetpack Joyride, which is a similar game. However, it does introduce some mechanics I haven’t seen before. There is an option to boost to go faster and make the game more challenging or get better times for the level completion. There are many different obstacles that are introduced throughout the game that will keep you on your toes and make the game more challenging. The game is very difficult, which it emphasizes on by telling you that you’re probably going to rage, but it is still fun. There is not much of a learning curve as the controls are simple and straightforward, and after practicing a level a couple times, you get the hang of it. I didn’t rage, but I had lots of fun.

8/10

Graphics – The graphics are relatively simple, but they are still nice to look at. There aren’t many crazy effects to wow anyone, but it still does it’s job. I noticed that when I was playing that the screen was blurry while running, which made it a little disorienting to play. It may have just been an issue with me or some other factor on my side, but that was just something I noticed. It wasn’t anything horrible, and I still enjoyed the game.

7/10

Music/Audio – The sound effects are not complex. There are simple sound effects for the menu and basic movements during gameplay, but it doesn’t really extend past that point. The music is very energetic, it makes the game much more enjoyable and exciting. There isn’t a huge array of music within the game but it isn’t exactly noticeable while you are trying to beat the level.

6/10

Conclusion – AFTERGRINDER does not bring a revolutionary new game style to the market, but it is still fun. The gameplay is unique enough to be entertaining and interesting, which is good to have. The game is quite difficult, which lives up to it’s advertising, but it can be learned and then overcome with practice. I had a lot of fun playing this game, although it may be agonizing to try and complete all 90 levels and get all the stars… but isn’t that the point?

Overall: 7/10 – Recommended
